What is Facial Acupuncture?
Facial Acupuncture is a cosmetic treatment that is an extension of traditional acupuncture. Its purpose is to make the skin look healthier, more youthful, and smoother. Facial Acupuncture addresses signs of aging and the skin’s overall health with the goal of rejuvenation.
While the focus of treatment is on the face, Acupuncture’s overall health benefits of relaxation, reduced anxiety, increased blood flow, and optimal health are also experienced.
Acupuncture increases blood flow to an area, so the face is fresh with a bright tone. There is an added benefit of reduced jaw tension. Facial Acupuncture aims to reduce fine lines and wrinkles and improve skin texture leading to a more youthful appearance. It also utilizes body needles to address any imbalances.

Treatment
During a Facial Acupuncture treatment, the Acupuncturist will insert twenty to thirty tiny and painless needles on the face. As the needles puncture the skin, they create tiny wounds, called "micro traumas," that initiate the body’s natural healing process. This process leads to increased blood flow, collagen production, and the stimulation of elastin, which is responsible for increased elasticity of the skin.
Prior to treatment, a gentle, herbal facial cleanser is used to clean the face. Hot, steam towels are also used during treatment as well as Celluma LED Light Therapy. This popular LED uses a combination of red, blue, and near-infrared light to penetrate the skin, stimulate cells, and promotes collagen and elastin production. The blue light targets acne-causing bacteria, while the red light promotes tissue repair.
Facial Acupuncture treatment also includes other modalities in addition to needling, and can include any combination of facial gua sha, cupping, facial sculpting massage, herbal serums, creams, and masks.
Unlike Botox or dermal fillers, Facial Acupuncture isn’t a quick fix: it takes regular weekly treatments to realize long-term changes. One study found that the majority of people saw improvements after just five treatments, but ten treatments once or twice a week is recommended for optimum results. Afterwards, a minimum of once per month is recommended for maintenance.
