Dr. Mauro grew up in San Diego, graduated from USD High School then attended Wellesley College, majoring in Medieval/Renaissance studies while also completing pre-medical courses. She believes her investigation of literature, history and philosophy, with an emphasis on the development of medicine, provided her with a unique perspective on the role of the physician in healing. After attending UCLA School of Medicine and completing her residency in Family Practice at Mercy Medical Center in Redding, CA., she practiced primary care for five years in the San Diego area before she realized that conventional medicine alone was not serving her Patients' needs for holistic care or her own needs for professional fulfillment.

She completed UCLA's Acupuncture for Physicians course in 1999, but found that the managed care environment made it difficult to combine conventional and "alternative" treatments in her practice. Because she prefers to enter into a partnership with each Patient to achieve optimal health, her evaluation, education, and treatment of Patients requires more time than is available in a conventional practice. Therefore, she is now practicing Medical Acupuncture, which combines Western medicine with Eastern acupuncture approaches.

Dr. Mauro is trained and board certified in Family Practice and is available for some conventional medical evaluation and treatment as needed, but Pacific Center Of Health is not equipped to provide the full spectrum of primary care services. She will be happy to communicate with your personal Physician, or refer you appropriately, if issues beyond the scope of her current practice arise.

Dr. Mauro has been trained in the energetic healing system of Reiki. Reiki was developed by a Japanese theologian after years of study of the healing powers of holy people from many different spiritual traditions. It involves simply a "laying on of hands" by the practitioner to access healing energy always present in the environment. While many physicians and patients are rediscovering the importance of spiritual comfort in attaining and maintaining health, Reiki does not require any particular belief system to be effective, only a willingness to receive it.
